u-bolt nuts

Hey guys, is there anything special to these tall u-bolt nuts? I mean, I have to cut the old hardware off, and don't know if I can just replace them w/ any old 7/16-20 nuts or if there is something I don't know about... thanks!

Re: u-bolt nuts

Regular Grade 5 nuts should be fine. That's what the replacements at the parts store come with.

Re: u-bolt nuts

The OE nuts used are locking nuts, see the dimple on the side?
If you're going to replace, use either a Nyloc locknut, Gr5 or 8, or visit a bondafide fastener and get a mechancial locking nut like original.

Re: u-bolt nuts

Your local spring shop can probably sell you some of the tall style nuts. Look them up in the phone book. My shop in Harrisburg, PA sold me some last year.
