MOOG K5208 ball joints won't fit in spindle

I'm finally putting the '81 Camaro back together and the new steering and suspension parts that were in a tupperware in the corner of my garage are finding there place on the car... except for the spindles (steering knuckles). I bought MOOG K5208 upper ball joints. The ball joint stud is too wide for the tapered bore in the spindle. The casting numbers on the spindles are 371675 LH and 371676 RH. Most Camaro websites confrim that the 80-81 Camaros came with these spindles. Besides, I'm 99% sure they are original. I went to the local parts store and picked two more K5208 ball joints out of parts stock and they were exactly the same. They fit the same and had the same stamping at the end of the stud. I ran some very fine sandpaper inside the bore of the knuckle to clean up any rust or paint but that didn't change at all.

Although I've never had to struggle putting ball joints in GM cars, I even tried tightening the castellated nut in order to pull the ball joint in, but no dice. It just gets stuck.

Has anybody run into this?

Thanks in advance.

5208 is the correct number. You might post those spindle casting numbers on a 2nd gen board to verify them.
