Re: Will power disk brakes work with this cam?

Egad. I bet that cam would pull around 5-6" of idle vacuum. Now, if you're not doing constant driving in heavy traffic (clutch riding I call it) it will build the booster under light load. Once you get a cam like that moving a bit your vacuum will jump up and as long as your booster check valve is good it'll give you enough booster vacuum to get your power assist. Z/28's ran a similar cam and somehow they managed to operate an 11" booster.

Re: Will power disk brakes work with this cam?

Thanks for your help. Would a smaller booster be a better thing for the cam then?

Re: Will power disk brakes work with this cam?

I don't think there's really much difference in boosters as far as the amount of vacuum required to work properly. The smaller single diaphragm ones usually just fill faster but the flip side is that they don't offer as much assist once vacuum has dropped off. The dual diaphragm models offer greater surface area in a smaller package but again vacuum required is still the same as far as I know. The bottom line as far as I'm concerned is to know what kind of driving you're going to be doing the majority of the time and set it up for that. If it's going to be nothing but traffic duty I'd consider on getting set up with a manual master cylinder and proportioning valve or combo valve. Only way to find out for sure is to see how your current system works.

Hi I heard recently that you can steal hydraulically assisted brakes off of a type of mini van. Does anyone know about this. If this is true. That is a truelly cheap alternative, that would solve alot of problems (like big cams).

No way to tell for sure ahead of time. But my guess is that it should be OK. The cam is not that radical.

Re: Will power disk brakes work with this cam?

Well, it will be a mixture of driving. Town and highway. I think I might give it a shot with an 11" booster. If it worked with the Z-28 I would think it would work. Thanks again. Motor is a 355 Chevy....
