Re: I need an exploded view of front drum brake spindle bearings assem

Thanks, Jeff. I already assembled it but would like to have it for my records. I havnt had to work on drum brakes in 30 years. If anyone has a diagram of all the drum brake parts and their location Id really appreciate it. Thanks again. Michael

Real critacal.....how did your tighten up the crown nut?
Do it wrong and the bearings will rumble in a few days/weeks do it right and they will last 100,000 miles plus.

My Spelling is not incorrect...it is creative

John, Tom,Doug, Thanks, I have two Camaro books but neither get into the spindle bearing brakes components deal. The 1968 Factory Assembly Instruction manual isnt detailed enough, theres lots of threads on disc brakes but not too many on the details of drum brakes.

Steptoe, Just tightened enough to hold in place. No engine or trans yet. What is the normal torque on a spindle nut?

Re: I need an exploded view of front drum brake spindle bearings assem

OK i have seen so many times bearing screwed up
Tighten the crown up till quite firm...this makes sure the bearings and stuff are seated.
Back off till loose...then tighen up...usually hand tight till everything is firm...then BACK OFF to the nearest spilt pin hole.
The only time one tightens is if there is the slightest nick to drop the split pin in ..and I mean slightest....
Over tighten destorys bearing fast.

The other thing is packing grease...there are special packers on can buy that keep your hand reasonble dirty (there is an old thread on the subject)...work fine..but hey whats the difference between a little grease on the hands and a heap...
Anyway put a dob of grease on the heal of you hand then wipe the edge of the bearing in it to force in...go around one edge , give a spin, then the other edge...that is usually enough but I always do both edges 2x.

My Spelling is not incorrect...it is creative
