Anyone convert 3rd gen axle studs to 7/16?

Has anyone switched the studs on a 3rd gen Borg Warner axle ( 12mm) to the 7/16 -20 studs? I haven't been able to find a 7/16 stud at the auto parts stores that has the correct knurl size which seems to be about 12.5mm. The 7/16 stud knurl is too small ( about .472, or <12mm). I am resisting drilling to 1/2 since I have a new front disk kit with the 7/16-20s.

Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Jeff

Have you tried Summit, Jegs, or a local speed shop?

Get yourself a Dorman catalogue and look up the various sizes. There's 610-175 that has a knurl diameter of .512" and is 1 3/16 long with a shoulder of 13/32". You have to consider a few factors when replaceing studs, knurl diameter, stud length, shoulder height for a good fit. There are a couple other part numbers that look like they might be a good fit.
HOWEVER....why are you changing them? Just to have them match the front? That's silly, so what if your front and rear lug nuts are different (7/16' vs 12mm) they don't need to interchange..they stay at the proper wheel..front vs rear.

Re: Anyone convert 3rd gen axle studs to 7/16?

what was the knurl size of the 78-80 A and G bodies that still had 7/16" studs?

you don't plan sincerity.
you have to make it up on the spot.

wanna hear about 20 years ago when i was too smart to know any better?

Re: Anyone convert 3rd gen axle studs to 7/16?

Looks like the fronts for the A / G body have a knurl diameter of .564 and the rears are .472 according to Dorman. The 610-175 as mentioned by 1stGenLvr looks like the closest match with a .512 knurl ( I need a .501). I may try one to see what happens. The problems with the 610-175 are that the shoulder height is greater and the overall length is shorter. I also checked Summit, Jegs, ARP etc. I assumed this would be a straightfoward conversion! I may need to stay with mismatched studs. :-(

69 Camaro. The 9 bolt BW was installed by the previous owner and is an IROK-Z G92 Posi. We'll see how it holds up. Although I realize we're talking about a non-stock rear, I still feel like it should be blended seamlessly into original car. I'm not liking the idea of mismatched lug nuts. Seems a little hodge-podge... I don't mind having the slightly smaller 7/16 studs. One other option is to convert the front 7/16s from the CPP Big Brake Kit to 12mm though...
