1969 Original GM Brake calipers

Hello guys, I was just reading a thread on a Yenko website which stated that what is believed to be a julian date code on 1969 (633) calipers is actually a batch number. Anyone shed some light on this??? Here is the link: (Photo included of date code location)

Re: 1969 Original GM Brake calipers

It's my ad on here that may've prompted this discussion, but it's a good one.

And interesting... I hadn't heard this before, but I ran out just now and checked all the calipers I have in stock and sure enough, most were stamped (smaller font too) on the right hand boss rather than the left as shown in the picture in the Yenko.net thread... I, like most perhaps, assumed the cast numbers were a Julian date code like other cast parts, heads, blocks, et cetera as I'd never seen one above 365... which is curious (and may have led to the theory in the first place?) In any event, I would defer to the experts at Yenko.net and others as I've not researched as far as I'm sure they have. Does John Z want to weigh in? Anyone else?

Someone want to check their (known) original car(s) ? - I sold the ones off my 500 mile barn find SS396 a few years ago and before I got into calipers and didn't check the numbers my bad.

...and 'nother thing - the picture on Yenko.net of the GM component ID manual alludes to a five digit stamping... on all of my calipers it's only a two or three digit stamp, no leading zero on the two digit ones and no "year stamp" after any of them either...

Re: 1969 Original GM Brake calipers

OK, so I just blasted 6 more and found stamps on each:

cast 240 stamped 356
cast 240 stamped 256
cast 220 stamped 334 - each of the "3"s have different fonts BTW
cast 305 stamped 338
cast 243 stamped 91 (hard stamp)
cast 209 stamped 00229 (tiny font) on the left side boss, rather that the right side like all the above; and this doesn't seem to jive with the "DDDYY" composition from the book...

Should this be the next research project? Kurt S?

I've got a total of 19 633s on hand right now... and could take pictures of each if there's interest.
