No comparison between stock and the 3rd gen. box. If it doesn't have to be stock, go IROC or aftermarket. (AGR, Lee, etc.)

69 Camaro -originally a LM1 car. 327, Edelbrock E-streets, hooker, DUI performance distributors, ultradyne cam, stewart, TRW etc. Vintage Air, AGR steering, Corbeau GTSII seats, 700R4 transmission, 12-bolt w/Eaton 4.11:1

Re: 69Z switching 2 power steering, std gear box or iroc

I just finished swapping a manual steering box for a '96 jeep grand cherokee power steering box on my 69 camaro. Total cost for parts was around $300.00. I bought the steering box at a salvage yard for $50 and the power steering pump and brackets at a swap meet for $100. I bought the pitman arm and coupler (rag joint) from Rock Auto and the hoses from O'Reilly's, the pressure seat for the high pressure steeering box fitting from Lee's. I have a new chevy pick-up and the effort to steer the camaro is the same as the pickup.

The iroc box is a world of difference! Cheaper than buying the AGR, Lee. I just went to NAPA and asked them for the third gen iroc box. $134

68 Camaro SS... getting there!!
