Re: AMD or Hotchkis sub frame, anyone seen one

I saw a Hotchkis sub frame on a 69 camaro last year at a car show. It looked really nice. It didn't stand out when you were walking up to the side of the car. I talked to the owner and he said it was easy to install.

I plan on getting one for my car in the near future. I hear they add a lot of strength to the car and help prevent body twist. Hope this helps.

AMD makes the subframe that Hotchkis uses. You can find used original frames. There are a couple for sale with stock suspension on Lateral-G.net. Alot of people are replacing their stock subframes for DSE, Speedtech and others.

Z28Rich – They look and work great. As the first gen Camaros get older, we’re finding that the original frames were not protected well enough for the harsh environment…especially if the car is from the east coast. We also heard a lot of enthusiasts who, like yourself, want performance but not out of a non-stock style from.

JayBird – That’s very true that there are used original subframes out there for sale. While making modifications to stock subframes in the past we’ve uncovered some scary fractures and cracked welds, especially around the control arm towers. We also had a friend unknowingly purchase an old subframe that developed problems weeks after putting it into service and came to find out the frame had been through a vehicle fire. Maybe these cases are few and far between, but after cases like these we are definitely believers in fresh new quality steel and welding.
