Did I damage my steering column?

Have been working on installing a turn signal switch for the last few days and got everything back togethere and went to put my steering wheel back on and my steering column seems short and it moves in and out. I pull it out so far and it won't come out any farther. Did I damage my steering column some how? It's a 67 camaro. Oh, I have not put back on the little c-clip that goes over the bearing assembly. Does the keep the shaft in place?

Re: Did I damage my steering column?

Nevermind, didn't have the column pulled out all the way and didn't see the groove for the c clamp.
