Question about my steering column

what is the plastic white piece at the bottom of steering column? this is off my 67 camaro deluxe interior. i have another steering column from a 68 and it does not have this part. my friend has a 67 camaro and his does not have it either. i have not found it in any parts listing as well.

Re: Question about my steering column

The 1967 start of production steering column lower bearing had a threaded plastic adjuster that took up the length tolerance between the various steering column parts. The plastic threaded adjuster was quickly redesigned and replaced with a clamp, nut, and bolt design. So you must have an early 1967 steering column.
This is a comparison of Early and Late 1967 Corvette steering column lower ends. The parts are not identical to the Chevelle but the basic concepts were the same.

I would think that you should be able to obtain a late 1967/1968 lower bearing, adapter, clamp, nut and bolt to update the lower end of your steering column.

Re: Question about my steering column

I would think that you could use the lower bearing and adapter in that add. I just don't understand why that same bearing and adapter wouldn't work on a tilt column as well. I am quite sure that the lower end of a tilt column uses the same bearing types as the standard (non-adjustable) type.
