Question

I own a 68 small block, it has a problem however. At highway speeds it wants to wander all over the road especially over bumps, it doesn't center very strongly either. I've had it aligned 3 times, replaced the control arm bushings, idler arm, pitman arm, inner and outer tie rods too. Don't know what else to do except maybe replace the steering gear box itself. I NEED a solution, parents are getting tired of taking pot shots at a fix, and are threatening to sell. So if anyone has any ideas help me out please.
Thanks much

How much play do you have in the steering box and has the steering box ever been adjusted?

Get the steering box adjusted first. A PS box has one adjuster on top. A manual box has two adjusters, one on the top, one on the front of the box.
Read this: http://www.monte-list.nu/tech/boxmesh.shtml STEERING BOX ADJUSTMENT

If that doesn't help, with stock springs the air tends to lift the front end at high speeds. It isn't usually a problem at 60 mph but at 100 mph it can be a big problem.

If your suspension is in good shape and you have radial tires on the car, try a front spoiler on it if you don't have one now.

Stiffer springs will help a lot.

fast68, tell us about your tires. I have had two cars with this problem and both times, a new set of tires changed the car from an unmanageable tyrant to a dream to drive. If your tires are old, worn or even crummy discount tires, this may well be the problem. Is there anyone you know with new tires on their Camaro or Chevy that would let you do a swap for a short ride to see how your car responds? Also, are all of your tires matched brand and matched size? If not, expect these problems. Good luck and please let us know what you find!

David, wheres a good place to buy a front spoiler for a 67' camaro, and are there mounting holes for them on every camaro?

There are places to drill on the lower valance panel for the spoiler, there are braces for the ends and center.
You can use either the 68 or 69 spoiler, the 68 is slightly shorter, if your car is lowered a lot, the shorter spoiler may give better clearance.
Any of the restoration parts dealers should have them.

Check your rag joint as well. Mine stopped after replacing it.
