Remove the hose from the box and take a look at the brass flare seat in the port.
It may be damaged or if the leak is huge, it may be missing.
Later boxes have a different seat with O ring seal and metric port threads. The US flare nut will screw in but be kinda loose. Hopefully they didn't use a late model core for your box.
