I have had two master cylinders fail in the last 1000 miles on a 68 SS. Are there any possible causes other than very bad luck?

Both cylinders were installed by different brake shops so I assume they were installed correctly. The brakes worked well for at least 200 miles after each installation. The master cylinder is not low on fluid and the brake light flickers on and off when I apply the brakes. I can slowly stop the car but the pedal is very low.

Define fail.

It might have not failed and just needs to be bench blead before installation. That and it sometimes take a little while to get all the air out....

Having two cylinders fail is quite odd and rare in my opinion, but I will also say that it is possible......just unlikely.

i went thru 2 different reman masters before i got a good one for my Nova this spring. the first one would not bench bleed, and the second one was leaking fluid out under the dash at a pretty prodigious rate. the third one looks more like a new master than a reman, and has a few thousand trouble free miles on it now.
sometimes it takes a few tries to get good parts..

you don't plan sincerity.
you have to make it up on the spot.

wanna hear about 20 years ago when i was too smart to know any better?
