Re: 69 shackle modification

My car sits about 1.5" lower on the left rear compared to the right. My left shackle is pointed back towards the bumper, my right shackle is pointed forwards towards the axle.

No idea why...car is on jackstands under the axle.

Your springs are different, perhaps the leafs are binding or the left one has a broken leaf. Or maybe the bushings are binding. Loosen the shackle and forward eye mounting bolts and set it down on the ground.

Re: 69 shackle modification

Take the springs back out and take them to a spring shop and get them re-arched. Tell the guy how much you need and they will rebend the springs to whatever height you need. Then you can use all of the right equipment but still have the car sitting where you want it.

People have mentioned the "on the ground" before, which I don't understand.
In my mind, floor is level, rear axle is level, and the springs don't know if the axle is supported by tires or stands, so really doesn't matter, as long as the front is on stands as well.

All bolts are loose, and when the springs were out, they were mirrors of each other.

Likely will have to pull them again before this is all over, so will take another look then.

Sounds like the leafs on the right side are binding on each other. I would try spraying a bunch of lube between the leafs. Were these new springs or are they old and a little rusty?

Thats a good idea. I looked around the Atlanta area and have not found a spring shop yet. I'm sure there has to be, I'll keep looking.

Re: 69 shackle modification

Look under semi trucks if you cannot find a car shop. It has been awhile but the cost was not bad at all. I had a 67 that I had lifted to clear a set of slicks. I used the original shocks and had no problems with the way they were done.
