68 Z28 Lower Steering Column Bearing

Rebuilding steering column on 68 Z28 non power steering car. After renewing lower bearing cannot get snap ring back on shaft ( new bearing larger dimension). Original tolerance assembly has threads melted and cannot be adjusted. Can't find anyone who reproduces the tolerance assembly.

Any suggestions ? Joe

Re: 68 Z28 Lower Steering Column Bearing

Thx
I've seen the bearing ( and have purchased one ) but between the bearing and the steering coupler flange is a " tolerance assembly" , good for one adjustment only. I suspect the tolerance assembly is designed to retain the bearing in place and take the longitudinal option out of the steering shaft.
I cannot find out whether the upgraded bearing assembly you forwarded replaces both the stock bearing arrangement and the "tolerance assembly".
Thanks again Joe
