Help changing \ installing power steering pump.

Hi All,

It may sound simple to most but I have just started doing my own work and the first task on my list is to change the power steering pump. I have gotten as far as getting the old one out, the pulley removed and finally brackets and pulley installed on the new pump. This is where I need some guidance. The new pump came with the little half moon for the pulley (which I used) and two O rings, a smaller and a larger one. Neither O ring fit anywhere that makes sense and looking at the old pump, I don't see any O rings in the pump or on the pressure hose. The larger of the two I thought might go into the pressure side hole before the pressure hose but I am not sure that's right not to mention it does not fit.

Can anyone advise me on where these O rings might need to go, if anywhere?

Just for reference the pump was not leaking at either hose, it was leaking badly from the front bottom.

Thanks

Re: Help changing \ installing power steering pump.

Did you have to swap the reservoir over from the old to the new pump? There are o-rings around the bolt holes where the pump and reservoir mate. Perhaps they included o-rings to make the pump more "universal fit" in case the reservoir didn't fit?

Re: Help changing \ installing power steering pump.

Sorry I should have been more clear, what I bought at the parts store was a complete unit, the pump and reservoir already assembled. My plan was simply to take off two hoses, remove whole pump & reservoir swap brackets to new pump & reservoir reconnect hoses flush, fill & drive :-)

Re: Help changing \ installing power steering pump.

They could be for metric pressure hose ends, make sure you don't have them on the new pump. Trial fit your existing line into the pump, the nut should thread in easily and snug down. If the metal line inside the nut can move with the nut tight it will leak as the pump might have been fitted with the metric fittings when it was rebuilt.

Thank you, I'll install today, luckily it's a quick job so if it leaks I'll take it back out :-)

The 5/8 inverted flare on our factory power steering lines will thread into the metric fitting but it won't seal.
