spring bushings

I have a 68 ss rs bb car with the 5 leaf springs. I would like to install new bushings and when I removed the old ones it appears that they were both installed on the same side. When I measured each side, one side was 1/2" the other approx. 3/4" . The outer steel jacket measured 2 1/2". My question is should I install them on opposite or does it matter if they are on the same side. Thanks for any advise.

Re: spring bushings

They can go in either way. When they get pressed in the distance from side to side should be the same. Personally I would install them from the outside or inside so it looks the same from side to side.

Re: spring bushings

Thanks Garth I will also install them from the outside or inside for the looks. I still not sure why Chevy installed them in the same direction. My car had only 27,000 miles on it and was stored for approx. 35 years. I know that I am the 5th owner and the last one as it will stay in the family. Thanks again
