Cancel cam question

Purchased a new cam as my turn signal would not shut off this is for a 67 Camaro
non tilt steering when the new cam arrived the upper bearing spring did not fit
in the front side of the cam like the old one but it did fit the back does it matter what side the spring gets installed?

Re: Cancel cam question

The spring has to go between the steering wheel and cam. A correct cam for a 67 has the cancelling bumps farther apart than later columns. The later tilt columns have the steering wheel pressing on the spring, then the cam is below it pressing on the bearing. On a 67 non-tilt, there is a thin snap ring on the shaft above the bearing, with a washer, then a wave washer, then the bearing.

I erased my earlier post which was wrong.

Re: Cancel cam question

Your photo is correct, I just checked my 67 non-tilt steering column which is out of the car.
I corrected my earlier post so we don't confuse someone with bad info.

Re: Cancel cam question

I've seen those springs break before. I used to maintain our farm fleet of pickups & trucks. GM used those springs for years & years. They are probably still using them.
