Re: 68 camaro rear sway bar

Not sure who made it. I'd say not Addco or Hellwig. The design is similar to a second gen rear bar, but the second gen bar is too wide to fit on a first gen without mods. One downside to that bar is the arms are short so if ride height changes much, the bar is at a pretty high angle. so if a bar is made to work on a normal ride height car, and yours is lowered, the arms will not be level.

Re: 68 camaro rear sway bar

Here's a picture of a Helwig adjustable rear sway bar for a 1st gen.

Helwigs have a grey-ish hammertone powder coated finish (at least mine does). The 2nd picture is the non-adjustable one I think.

Sorry for the size of that pix!

Re: 68 camaro rear sway bar

Thanks for the replies. From everything i have been able to find on the internet it seems there is some debate to whether there ever was a factory one available for the 302 road course cars.I picked this up in southern california so thought if there was such a thing someone might identify it as one used on them.

Re: 68 camaro rear sway bar

It may be a Herb Adams bar. I think he made one like that for First gen's.

Re: 68 camaro rear sway bar

I have that bar on my white car. I bought the bar new in 2001 ish. I'm confident it is a Hellwig. It makes the car loose when rolling through the middle of the corner. My 71 had the same design bar on the rear.

Re: 68 camaro rear sway bar

I have some GM drawings somewhere for an over the counter rear sway bar for first gens. It was never offered on an assy line car.

I am almost certain they were offered, along with a larger front bar, but only over the counter. And... I don't believe many were purchased, especially not by street car owners, as most were more concerned about going fast in a straight line.
