Will 70 Chevelle Brake Protioning Valve work on First Gen Front Disc Covnersion?

I am converting from drums to a front disc brake setup. I have a disc brake proportioning valve that looks similar to the 67-69 Camaro valve but came off a 70 Chevelle. This is the round looking part that is mounted on/near the booster and cylinder. It does not have the nut looking part like the camaro one. It looks sealed. Will this work? I still need to get the part that is fastened to the frame (splitter). I can email someone a picture it they can post it for me.

It may work. Best bet is to buy a combination valve from www.rightstuffdetailing.com or www.mpbrakes.com. It is one brass type valve mounted on the booster. No need for any splitter valve or anything else with this. That is what i used on all my disc conversions.About $85 from rightstuff with the bracket and hardware.

A DISC BRAKE COMBINATION VALVE IS A NECESSITY WHEN YOU ARE DOING A DRUM TO DISC CONVERSION. THE COMBINATION VALVE WILL PROVIDE ALL THE VALVING NECESSARY IN THE SYSTEM. THE VALVES WE PROVIDE WILL PERFORM THREE FUNCTIONS:
1. PROPORTIONING
PROPER PROPORTIONING IN A DISC/DRUM SYSTEM WILL PREVENT THE REAR DRUM BRAKES FROM LOCKING UP UNDER A HARD BRAKING CONDITION. AS MORE FORCE IS APPLIED TO THE BRAKES AND THE CAR LEANS FOWARD, LESS BRAKING FORCE IS NEEDED IN THE REAR. THE PROPORTIONING FUNCTION OF THE VALVE WILL DECREASE THE PRESSURE TRANSFERRED TO THE REAR PREVENTING REAR LOCK UP. PROPORTIONING FOR A DISC/DISC SET UP IS DIFFERENT FROM THAT NEEDED FOR A DISC/DRUM SYSTEM. THE 4 WHEEL DISC VALVE HANDLES THIS CORRECTLY.
2. METERING
METERING IS USED IN THE FRONT DISC BRAKE PORTION OF THE DISC/DRUM SYSTEM TO DELAY THE APPLICATION OF THE FRONT DISCS SLIGHTLY ALLOWING THE SLOWER REACTING DRUM BRAKES TO CATCH UP AND CONTRIBUIT TO THE BRAKING. THIS WILL PROVIDE REAR STABILITY ON WET SURFACES AND PREVENT EXCESSIVE FRONT PAD WEAR. THERE IS NO METERING PORTION OF THE COMBINATION VALVE FOR A DISC/DISC APPLICATION.
3. SYSTEM FAILURE WARNING
OUR COMBINATION VALVE INCORPORATES A SYSTEM FAILURE SWITCH WHICH WILL ALERT YOU WHEN ONE HALF OF YOUR BRAKING SYSTEM IS NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY.

I did the swap to front disc'c and power set-up but didn't use the proportioning valve above. Some others have done without it also and no ill affects. If you are looking to keep it "stock" looking then use the one you have otherwise the one above will work just fine.

BTW the one I have is going up for sale soon.New, never used.

Re: Will 70 Chevelle Brake Protioning Valve work on First Gen Front Disc Covnersion?

I did a front disk conversion with the drum rear. I used a gen 3 proportioning valve. This is really a proportioning, metering, and residual pressure valve. This works great. I would guess that the chevelle one would likely work. Even though the Chevelle is heavier it has about the same weight distribution. This is why I feel it will work...
