High Pressure Power Steering Hose

I have a stock 1968 Camaro with the original 327 and power steering. I rebuilt the pump and steering gear and replaced the hoses. What I need info on is the High Pressure hose. The new one I bought measures 27.25 inches long (centerline of fitting hole to centerline of fitting hole). The steel fittings are crimped on to the hose and are in the same plane when the hose is straight. These fittings are right angle fittings like the old hose. The problem I think I have is the hose has to be twisted to install and route around the motor mount AND the length appears to be a little short as there is a sharp bend in the hose coming out of the fitting that connects to the pump. Does anyone have the measurement for the length for the stock HP power steering hose and if the fittings are crimped on at 90 degrees to each other. This would possibly eliminate the twist in the hose when installed. Also, where is a good place to get the correct hose (Advance Auto?)? I welcome any info, advice, tips etc. Thanks!

Re: High Pressure Power Steering Hose

hmmm, didn't even see this til today, how could that happen?

I replaced my pressure hose on my 68 2 weeks ago. I got the new hose from napa. I didn't measure it or check the clocking, but did notice the end that goes into the pump was bent at only a 45, not a full 90. The hose seemed very high quality, fit well, and was a breeze to install.

Re: High Pressure Power Steering Hose

there are apparently some differences between the '68 and '69 hoses.

the high pressure hose for my 69 w/ power steering has a 90 deg bend in the metal tubing at the power steering box end, and the metal tubing is more of a "S" at the pump end. not sure of the overall length, but both hoses run below the motor mount without any binding/shortness/crimping issues.

Re: High Pressure Power Steering Hose

I have found that some power steering hose routings look great with the road wheel straight ahead. However, to be safe, with the front wheels off the ground have someone carefully look at the hoses as the wheels are steered full lock to full lock. In some cases, you might find that the hoses can rub against the steering linkage, pitman arm, etc during linkage travel if they are not installed exactly like the originals.
