New brake booster not working

I just upgraded my brakes on my 69 camaro from manual drum/drum to power disk/drum. My booster is not working at all. It is the same with the vaccuum hose on or off. The brakes work fine, have been bled and are not spungy. Here is what I have done so far. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I bought the plastic boot from NPG and used that. The rubber boot from my old MC would not fit where the lever goes into the booster so I just used the plastic one. (I'm thinking that may be my prob). I also replaced all brake lines but used the original man brake metoring valve. The vaccuum hose goes to my int manifold and is getting great vaccuum. The cam is mild so vaccuum shouldn't be an issue.

Thanksk,

Bill

Did you move the connection on the brake pedal arm to the other hole for power brakes?

I did. My brakes work fine but they are not power assisted. I am wandering if there is a vaccuum leak or did I install it wrong

Re: New brake booster not working

is the check valve in the booster installed backwards?

that 90 degree plastic fitting for the vacuum line is a check valve so it must be installed in the correct dirrection

Re: New brake booster not working

well then if it has vacuum and the check valve is in the correct direction sounds like the only thing left is for the booster to be bad

if you hold the brakes down then start the car does the pedal drop closer to the floor at all?

Re: New brake booster not working

On the front side of the booster, where it joins with the master cylinder, there should be a black rubber washer like thing that fits snugly into the opening of the booster. Without it, you booster will have a huge vacuum leak and probably won't boost. You can almost sorta kinda see it in this picture if you use your imagination.

400Bird No pedal drop at all.

Al, I will check that. Could there be a vaccuum leak in the back where the rod goes in? The only boot I found for it was a plastic one that seals to the firewall. Thanks again for all your input guys.

if the pedal doesnt drop when you start the car then you really are getting no assist, so i would check what bpos said check for the seal in the end, but it looks to me like its time for a new one otherwise
