1968 Camaro Tire Size

I have a 68 Camaro with the Original 14x7 Rally Rims and a set of Goodyear Polyglas F 70 14 Tires. I know 235 60 14s will fit all around. Will 245 60 14s fit all around?
Thank You for the help.

Re: 1968 Camaro Tire Size

Doubtful. Lots of factors to consider like backspacing, whether front end is lowered or stock. I would stick with 235 front and rear, or 235 front \ 245 rear.

Re: 1968 Camaro Tire Size

245-60-14 BF Goodrich Tires were mounted on 14x7 JJ Coded Rims and installed on my 1968 Camaro with no rubbing issues at all. Hope this helps.

No 14x7 rally's in 68, so they are either not original or only 6" wide.
No tire store will install 245's on a 6" wide rim, 235 is the max.

And this is an old thread i got sucked into replying!

Re: 1968 Camaro Tire Size

I just thought I would update the question with a good answer. 14x7 JJ Rally Rims and 245-60-14 BF Goodrich Tires clear with no rubbing issues on my 68 Camaro. My Camaro originally had 14x7 Steel Rims and Poverty Caps. Currently, I have Firestone Wide Oval Redlines (F-70-14) mounted on the Original Steel Rims to change the look from time to time.

I was able to personally mount P245/60/R14's on 14x6 original Chevy rally's on the front of my 1969 Camaro back in early 1991 while I was an Assistant Manager at a well known & still in business Tire & Auto Store located on Chicago's Southwest Side. Back then it was also a no no to mix bias on the rear & radial on the front on a street car. I mounted JC Penney Scat Trac 60's which were L60X14 o the rear of that car also on the original Rally's. LOL!!

FWIW back in the day many GM cars had P195/75/R14 sizes from the factory. A P195/75/R14 tire is 80.14" inches in circumference. The P245/60/R14 is 80.33 inches in circumference. The overall diamter is even less of a difference On a P245/60/R14 it meausres 25.57" while on P215/70/R14 it measures 25.51" The side wall height difference is 5.78" for the P245/60/R14 and 5.75" for the P195/75/R14....The P205/75/R14 is a little bigger.

Alot of Ford Rangers used P215/70R14 & some had P225/70R14 on 14x6 wheels. GM cars also had P 205/75/R14. The best part about that size is a P205/75/R14 measures 26.10" in Overall Diameter. The circumference on that P205/75/R14 size measures 81.99". A P235/60/R15 which I have all the way around my current 1969 Camaro measures the same exact diameter & circumference as P205/75/R14.

A 14x6 wheel will take a P245/60/R14 all day long and it will clear on alot of cars. It's not generally recommended because the 6" wheel will not maximize the contact patch of the tire as much as a 7" wide wheel will. It's not a safety issue like the 16 inch or 16.5 inch truck tires were back then. Many of my friends & I ran P245/60/R14 on 14x6 wheels for thousands of miles w/ no issues on Camaro's, Regals, Cutlass', Grand Prix's, Ford Rangers etc.

Al that being said, I had no idea what the JJ code was on a first gen wheel. I do not consider myself an expert on first gen wheels as far as what code was offered with this or that. Thanks for the info!! Peace & God Bless!

Smile Re: 1968 Camaro Tire Size

Remember, they are measured inside to inside the lips b/c a 6" wide rim will really measure right at 7" out to out.

I ran my 1st pair of L-60/14's on 6" rims way back then! 9" rims are WAY better!!

And a stock, '67 D-70/14 is a modern 200/70-14.

Re: 1968 Camaro Tire Size

They should fit- I just put 235/60/15s on the front and 255/60/15s on the back with no issues!
