American Racing's Torque Thrust 2

American Racing Torque Thrust 2 17 inch 7 inch wide with 225 45 17 tires.
I am getting some tire rub around corners with two people in the car.
Car has new springs all the way around with 1 inch drop.
? what would the correct back spacing be with 17x7 rims up front
I have 17x8 in back 255/45/17 in rear.(rear ok)

Re: American Racing's Torque Thrust 2

Well with a 8" wide front wheel the preferred backspace is 4.75" - 5.0" so I would suggest 4.5" with a 7" wheel. I saw a "slammed on the ground" '69 with 18x7s on the front with 225/40-18s run a 4.75" backspace with NO rubbing issues what so ever.

Re: American Racing's Torque Thrust 2

I only get a rub with 2 or more people in the car on long curves or big dips.. Right front only.
I now have p225/50/17 in front
If I go to p225.45/17 in front this should fix my rub. Tire would be .900 shorter or gust under a inch. Rears are 255/45/17 ? Would this still look ok. Backs would be a inch taller then front. I hope the fronts don't look like I have rubber bands on the wheels.

That size tire will work with no problem but is a 1/2" enough to stop the rubbing? If it is the new problem will be the stance is not right. The shorter tire will make the front of the car look higher because the gap over the top of the tire will get bigger (yeah yeah I know it's only a 1/2") but you see where this is going? The bottom line is the "best fix" is the correct backspace wheels. Hope this hepls.

Re: American Racing's Torque Thrust 2

I have a '68 RS/SS and am running the same AR wheels as you. My fronts are 17x7 with 4" B.S. (225/45ZR17) and rears are 17x9.5 with 5.5" B.S (275/40ZR17). I have no rubbing with this combination. I replaced the original 215/50ZR17 front tires with the 225's because they rubbed when making a turn on any steep slope. Hope this info helps.

Re: American Racing's Torque Thrust 2

Did you check to see what you were rubbing on?
could have just been a bolt head, Ive heard that lots around here. People just replace the hex bolt with a button head
