245/50-16s on the Front?

The diameter of a 245/50-16 is exactly the same as the stock 225/60-15s on a 69. I know there's no problem using the 245/50-16s on the rear but, am wondering if they will clear on the front. Has anyone here tried these on the front? Thanks

I have that size on the rear,
I test fit one on the from and it rubbed, but just barely and it was on a rim for the rear, so the backspacing was off

I think may have had problems with that big of a tire in the front, it can be done, just make sure you get your backspacing just right

Re: 245/50-16s on the Front?

On my 67 L30/M20, I did a 245x50x16 on a 4.5" BS with a 3/16" spacer (for the spokes to clear a new set of pads; after that I didnt need them)... and it would steer lock to lock without rubbing on a lowered chassis.

So... yeah. I think you can do it with the right BS.

Re: 245/50-16s on the Front?

What year car(s) are we talking about? There seems to be some differences between 67/68 and 69 in terms of tyre fitment.

That said, on my '69 I'm running 245/50R16 F & R on VWW 16x8" rims with 4.5" BS (no spacers). With "stock-style" front discs, ~4 deg of castor, ~-0.6 deg of camber and the top of the tire even with the wheelwell lip, I have about 1/2" clearance to the frame at full lock and no issues with the lip, but on the right side, the outer rear "corner" of the tyre just touches the rear of the wheelwell opening when turning right. I think with a little less castor, they'd be 100% fine.

Oddly enough, my 235/60R15 tyres on 15x7 repro rally wheels would touch the frame at steering lock. Different tyre brands have different profiles -- some may fit, some may not...

I too have VWW V45 16x8 (4.5" BS) with 245/50-16 tires, and have no issues. My alignment is 4* caster, -.5* camber. I'm also using a 1/4" spacer thanks to Chicane67's evil influence on C4 13" front brakes.

69 Camaro...I ran 235/60-15s with no problems whatsoever. Of course the car has new BB springs in the front.
