Any recommendations for great prices on rims/tires?

I'm building on a budget, so rim & tire selection is a tough one for me. I want to stay under $1000 for rims & tires, and unfortunately I've got very specific tastes so thats not easy. I've been looking through the post your pics sticky and have determined that the stance I love comes from 17x8 rims with 4.75 backspacing wrapped in a 235/45R17 up front and 17x9.5 rims with 5.5" backspacing wrapped in a 275/40R17 rear. Ideally what I'd like to find is a gunmetal version of the American Racing Torque Thrust II's...but it doesn't seem to exist, and Torque Thrusts are way out of my price range if I plan to actually put rubber around them.

Can anyone recommend either dirt cheap suppliers or a decent knock-off brand that looks like what I'm going for but doesn't come along with the hefty price tag? I'm not interested in putting $2K into rolling stock when I've got so many more important things to spend the money on in this car.

Here's the closest thing I've found, but the spokes don't sit back far enough from the lip for my tastes... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...170579549&rd=1

Oh yes indeed...I'm as confused as you think I am.

When I first started reading your post I immediately thought of the rims and tires you posted the link from on E-bay. I think those look good for the price, that is about the cheapest deal I have seen. If you can live with the slight difference in style I would say go for the e-bay specials. Someone else may have personal experience with that setup, hopefully they will chime in. Good Luck!

Re: Any recommendations for great prices on rims/tires?

To be honest, I like the idea of it not beign quite the same as Torque Thrust's...there are so many Torque Thrusts out there that I like the idea of having a slightly different twist on that style...it'll make my car stand out in a crowd a bit. But the main problem with those ones is they look like mustang rims to me. Not that I'm horribly opposed to mustangs, but I don't want my Camaro to look like one. I wish I could find someone nearby who has 'em so I could just borrow one & test it out for a few minutes.

Here's what my first choice would be if I had a bigger wheel/tire budget, I actually like this better than the torque thrust's:

Those wheels look very similar to BC Junkyard Dogs....but with added decor. I am getting these in the polished version: https://www.newstalgiawheel.com/imag...W_1264_500.gif

Like these?

Good luck finding gray Foose Nitrous II. When I bought mine at Spring Carlisle this year, they were a smoking good deal ($125 each, new with lugs, 15 x7 and 15 x8; larger sizes were more like $150 each ), and I was told that the reason why was that they had been discontinued and were being blown out.

You can try calling the guys I got mine from, www.morethantires.com .

Those look great. Your car isn't a black rallysport is it? I see you're in Atlanta too, so we definately need to make sure not to buy the same rim & put it on the same car. If you're doin' a polished & I'm doin' a gunmetal that'd work out okay though. I like the foose ones better just because of television. Chip seems like such a nice guy & Boyd is kind of a dink. I know its a dumb thing to base purchasing decisions on, but Overhaulin' vs American Hotrod just sticks in my head.

Yes, exactly those! I'll call 'em on my lunch break & see if they've got any 17"s left. $150 each leaves me money for tires & I can still come close to the 1K goal. Thanks for the tip!

Well, their wheel guy is out of town 'til Monday...so I sent him an email with what I'm looking for. Hopefully I'll get lucky. In the meantime, the hunt continues.

Good luck in the hunt. And no.... my Camaro is white thus, the polished wheel choice (and the fact that the chromed version don't come in 9.5" for the rear )

Bill -

I doubt he's out of town.

He's probably on the other side of town at the fairgrounds (Fall Carlisle started today, and they bring two semis). To get there, he has to leave one township, drrive through the Borough of Carlisle, and end up in another township. It's pretty far, about 10 minutes .

I'll see them on Friday; if you want to shoot me a PM with a number I can get you at during the day Friday, I can get the scoop and call if they still have them. Tell me the size and backspace you're looking for.

Re: Any recommendations for great prices on rims/tires?

You're right Eric, the guy I talked to said he was in Fairgrounds (didn't know exactly what that meant...to me he may as well have said he's in Tokyo)...10 minutes away is at least far enough for him to not take my phone call though. I sent you a PM with what I'm lookin for, thanks a lot for your help!

Re: Any recommendations for great prices on rims/tires?

Got your wish list, and I will pop in there and look around. If you don't get a call, it means no joy on any of your choices.

just as an aside, have you priced your tire sizes yet? With the 17s, I'd be really surprised if the tires alone aren't around $150 to $225 each.

That's one of the reasons I stayed with 15s. Yeah it's old school, but I have $500 in wheels, $300 in tires, and I'm good to go. Plus I like it...

FWIW, I'm paying $149 ea for Nitto 555's - 275/40/17 and $109 ea for the 245/45/17. A few places I checked wanted $220 for the 275/45's. You have to look around. Also, until I found the Nittos for that price...I as going to consider Riken Raptors (BFG makes em'), as they are a nice looking tire and priced much lower than most.

Hey, I'd check out the C-5 model @ www.coyswheel.com... I just ordered a set for my 69 firebird. They were very friendly and informative. They offer free shipping and they can mount tires for a reasonable price.
