18 or 19in wheel question

i am on a tight budget, i am looking for a cheap set of 18 or 19 in wheels for my 68 camaro, any thoughts. also, how wide can i go?

I have 14in wilwoods...hence the size of the wheel.

thanks guys....

Re: 18 or 19in wheel question

In the front 8" - 8.5" (4.75 - 5.25 backspace) is about max with a 245 series tire. In the rear 9" - 9.5" (5.25 - 5.75 backspace) with a 275 series tire. Do a search there is tons of reading on this. Some people have squeezed 10" but you need to roll lips and pound in inner wheel wells. As far as "cheap" wheels the only thing I can think of is factory take offs from new cars with adapters. Keep in mind good quality adapters are not cheap either. When you go upwards of 17 the word inexpensive goes away. I'm sure you will get more responses so hopefully they will have better ideas for bargains than I do. Good luck.

Jack is dead on. I would look at Bonspeeds for a nice 18" wheel without breaking the bank.

i don't think 18 or 19 inch wheels and 'cheap' belong in the same sentence! i'd make a template or get on for those brakes before you buy, though.

Re: 18 or 19in wheel question

guys,

the reason i was going with the 18s was to fit over the wilwood 14in big brake kit...but looking at the 18s i borrowed to roll the car....there is 1in of space...would 17s fit over the calibers? has anyone gotten 17s over them? Thoughts?
