Restoring Rally Wheels

I have rally wheels for my 67 camaro. What is the right way to restore them?I know the fronts get painted Argent Silver but what about the backside of the wheel?I would assume you paint the backside first but do you tape of the back when you paint the front or let them get the overspray,to do them properly.

Re: Restoring Rally Wheels

Im willing to bet you let them get overspray. This was a production line they were running so when we do a resto typically we give more attention to detail than they did at the factory.

Silver? I thought it was grey and everyone paints them silver anyway?

Yes, the argent over spray is suppose to be on the black. The argen is a special paint color, suppose to have a green tint to it, but I could never find it locally when needed . Eastwood prolly carries it.

Re: Restoring Rally Wheels

I Painted the back first with satin black with all the holes taped off. Then removed the tape and painted the front and allowed the over spray to go through to back. I think that is close to factory.

Re: Restoring Rally Wheels

My wheels were already sandblasted when I got them so I need to know what color is the back, black or gray? Thanks

Re: Restoring Rally Wheels

eastwood sells a kit , it has both the silver and the black to do your wheels. I did mine and they came out great. 1 kit ( 2 cans of silver and 2 cans of black is plenty for 4 wheels. good luck
