69 camaro wheels and tires

I just bought a 69 camaro (my first) that had air shocks with large tires, 295/50/15 on the rear. However I do not like the look and was thinking about removing the air shocks for gas charged shocks and going with 15x8 Wheel Vintiques 50 Series SS396 Wheels with either 5 inch or 4.5 inch back spacing with 245/60/15 tires. Could anyone tell me if that combination will work? also, what would be better, the rims with 4.5 inch or 5 inch backspacing? Could I even go with 255/60/15 tires or will they not fit under the body? The rear is a single leaf spring. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: 69 camaro wheels and tires

Either backspace should work fine with either tire. I have some pics of mine with 255/60 15 on a 4 inch BS in this thread: https://www.camaros.net/forums/showth...ight=backspace

I ended up with 245/60 15 on 4 inch BS, because I was a little concerned about rubbing the outer lip. It still rubs a little on the driver side, because I have the dreaded 1st gen driver side lean and haven't had time to chase it. If I had 4.5 inch BS, it would be perfect.
