Tire Size for my 68 Street/Strip

camaro....

Guys, I have a 68 with the factory type wheel houses and want to know the biggst rear tire I can run. i can get creative with wheel spacers and I can raise the rear a little if need be. I would really like to use the Hoosier QTP 17601 if I can, it is 28' tall, 88' roll out, 10.0 inches wide, 11.2 section width on a 15x8 wheel.

If I have to roll the lip at the wheel opening I will. Any recomendations?

Re: Tire Size for my 68 Street/Strip

Those and a pair of E-60 size fronts will look way "old-school", imho...

I figure that you will have to use coil-overs to raise her about 4" too!! Unless you relocate the shock's bottom mounts b/c they will hit the rims! Use 17" rims and they tuck up inside them..

Re: Tire Size for my 68 Street/Strip

I think I have seen in Jeg's a piece to move the bottom shock location inside of the spring, I will use it too if I have too.

Anybody know what the actual measurements of a 285/60-15 might be? the tech guy at jeg's wasn't any help.

Thanks for any and all responses!

Smile Re: Tire Size for my 68 Street/Strip

I figure that you will have to MEASURE them to know for sure!!

My old L-60/14's on 9" rims measured a modern 298-53/14 so by no stretch were they 60's!!

26.5" tall w/ an 11.5" or so section width! Big Mutha's ta say the least!!

Car looked down-right mean w/ them and my E-'s on the front!!

And my Strong-Arm 406 would haze the heck outta them in 1st gear!! My big L's would go "zzZZZZZZzzzz"....... He, He!!!

To the best of my memmory...
My McCreary's 285/60/15 SH (SH = short) were 27.5" tall and 12" or 12.5" wide (used a level while they laied on the floor). That was sidewall to sidewall on 8" wide wheels.

Re: Tire Size for my 68 Street/Strip

Well... In spite of what everyone told me, here's what I ran on the rear...

15x8 Weld Prostars w/ 4.5" BS
15x28x12.5" Mickey Thompson ET Streets

It was as large as I could go. No fenderwell modifications. No rubbing.

Good luck.
Jim
