67 Camaro: factory wheel choice

I am looking for some opinions on the wheel setup for my car. My car is an original RS/SS convertible with the optional wheel covers as seen on my car in the first picture. I want to keep the car looking original but was considering changing up the wheel / tire combo to give it a bit of a new look that I can easily switch back. Everything about the car is factory original except for the paint as the original owner had it painted from gold to red and replaced the relines with the white wall tires. Hopefully I can afford to have it painted back to gold soon. I spent most of my money on the car itself and I'm saving for paint so I don't have a bunch of cash left over for custom wheels. I used many of these pictures from the internet and from people on this site, so if they are yours "Thanks!".

Re: 67 Camaro: factory wheel choice

I have the original body color wheels and small hub caps put up with the 2nd set of tires on the car (originals replaced in 1975). I am running ralleys and black wall tires.

Where are all the "keep it original" guys out there?
I might hang up these wheels too... you don't see the wheel covers often... but there might be a reason for that.

Re: 67 Camaro: factory wheel choice

I voted for wheel covers and redlines, but I like the optional PO2 (simulated wire wheel) covers better than the PO1 base covers. Even the N96 (simulated 5-spoke mag wheel) covers would be a good choice.
http://www.hubcaps.org/camaro.html

PO1 = CHV001

PO2 = CHV003

N96 = CHV002

I assume since you say the car had the PO1 as original equipment, it is not a disc brake car.

Seems like 85% of 1st gens have rally wheels, and although the look is timeless, it is nice to see something different now and then. Plus, you really have to watch what you get in the way of repro rallys, as there are some not so good parts out there. Unless you can find a nice used set of rallys cheap, you'll end up with as much (or more) money in rallys than you will in a set of "mags."

Re: 67 Camaro: factory wheel choice

According to my original bill of sale it came with "wheel covers" but I do not have a build sheet to verify the codes. I do have early pictures from the original owner (owned for the first ~40 years) and the pictures show the wheels covers that are on the car now. Since everything else is untouched I am sure they are the P01 covers. It is not a disc break car so the car would not have received rally wheels. If I do stick with covers I will keep the ones I have now... I'm not a huge fan of covers but I do like the fact that the car looks unique AND original. I am still undecided. If I had lots of cash I would run two sets one as original and another set, but that just isn't in the (wife's) budget.

Re: 67 Camaro: factory wheel choice

For what it's worth, I'm restoring a 67 coupe and plan on using American Torq Thrust D with raised white letters for that traditional 60's look.

Bottom line tho is do what you think looks best

It's your car

69-70 SS wheels http://camaro.bertke-one.com/teamcam...s/67Plum1.html .Wheels and tires are so easy to change I dont think it matters if they are original or not.Just keep your originals and put what you like on it.

Re: 67 Camaro: factory wheel choice

Use the original wheel covers and thin redlines bias ply for originality, go with body color steel wheel, or ralleys with white letter radial for driveability. Heres a pic of mine with bias raised white letter. I have since bought a set of redline bias just have not installed yet.

Thanks for the picture... I really like the look of that combo. Looks like I need to find myself another set of base (FC) 14X6 steel wheels so that I can have them powdercoated body color and run them as my drivers. I think I will be running the factory D70 redlines on my wheel covers and this setup with wider white letter polyglas or radials for my daily driver as they are not as common as the rally wheels. I'm returning my rally rings and caps. Let me know if anyone has any of the parts (wheels, caps or tires) I need. I'm not looking to pay huge dollars for NOS parts as they are only spare wheels and I don't mind gently used tires.
