Re: my tires to big?????

If they rub then your tires are to large, your ride height is to low, or you wheel offset is wrong. Stock tire diameter is 26" they are to tall at 27".

Re: my tires to big?????

I would say the 70's are too high.

I have 215-60-15's on the front of my '67 with zero issues.

'67 Marina Blue Convertible. L30, PG. All numbers match, 41k original miles.

Re: my tires to big?????

A '69 Z/28 got E70 15's or in todays sizes 205/70x15 which is 26.3" tall and 8.2" section width. Other '69's might have had F70 14's which are like a 215/70x14 which is 25.9" tall with a 8.7" section width.

Yours are 26.9 tall, 8.7" section which is a bit tall and likely why they rub. Where do they rub? If at the outer fender lip it could be alignment, at the frame rails they are just too tall.

Metric tire sizes are not stock for these old cars. The 215/65/15 is 25.8" tall with an 8.9" section width. The E70 15 ('69 Z tire size) was 26.4" so the 205/70/15 is closer in height. F70 14 could be found on non-Z cars in '69 and it's 26.2" tall and the 215/70/14 is 25.9" so your 215/65 is closer but it's a 15" wheel and for the context of this thread only the Z got a 15" wheel so to split hairs the 215/70/14 would be closer to stock based on wheel size.
