275/50 Drag Radial on 69???

I'd like to run the 275/50 on a 8 inch rally wheel on my 69. I have stock wheelwells, nothing trimmed, and a 275 looks like it can fit but will be tight.

Anyone running M/T 275/50 on a 69? Want to use an 8 inch wheel and need to know if 4 inch off-set is right.

Re: 275/50 Drag Radial on 69???

I run 275/50/15 MT and BFG drag radials on my 69. The wheel is a 15x8" Weld with 4.5" bs. I have trimmed wheel lips but my car is lowered 3" in the back. If it was stock height you would be fine. 4" bs will not work...you need 4.5". Here is a pic of them on my car.

I didnt know you could put 275s on a 8 inch wheel. From what i have read about my 9 inch wheels 275 is the max. How big can i really go?

Re: 275/50 Drag Radial on 69???

I run 255/60/15 MT ET Street drag radials on 15x8 with 4.5" back spacing on my 69 with stock wheel wells with stock wheel well trim.

Stock ride hight with stock rear 5 leaf springs (I have comp eng. J Bolt traction bars).

These fit with no problem, and no fear of cutting a tire from the trim either.

From my research, these were the largest wheels I could fit without doing some type of modification, or being damn close to the wheel well lip. The 275 will fit, but depending on the car, you will need to run trimmed wheel whell lips and/or remove the trim.

I've run 12.10 with these with a 1.63 60ft time, so they hook just fine. No reason I could see for 20mm (3/4") wider tread. Unless you plan to pull the front wheels off the ground on the launch or use a trans brake, this tire size should work.

I also run this tire size and wheel combo with BFG Radial T/A's on the street. It fills the wheel well nicely, and again no rubbing and no drama or modification.

Best Regards!

Thanks - picture says it all. Any idea how many street miles can you get out of the M/T tires?

Depends on how many track days. I would say a max of about 3K.

I have 275/50 MT's on 8.5" convo pro (5" b.s.) that I used on my '94 Z28
I stuck one on my '68 for fun, looks great, is right at the fender lip, but is extremely close inside

haven't set it back on the ground to look at it further

My 275/50 Hoosiers fit perfectly on my 67, no clearance issues at all...
