Redline tire question

Where did the redline tire come from? Was it a factory option that came on high performance models? Or was it an aftermarket tire that people swapped onto their ride?
Which cars had these tires on them? I like the look of them and was just curious as to where they came from.
Thanks!
John

Re: Redline tire question

Based on the Camaro White Book the red stripe tire came standard with the SS model in 1967. For 1968 there was no charge for a red stripe tire either in nylon or fiberglass belts on the SS. In 1969 there was no charge for the nylon belted red stripe on an SS, but it cost $26.25 for the fiberglass belted ones on an SS. Since the option codes (RPO) are listed it appears that the red stripe tire was probably available as an option on any Camaro in these 3 years. Hope this helps. I'm guessing different tire manufacturers made the red stripe tires. Just going by memory I am pretty sure Uniroyal made Tiger Paws that were red stripe tires back in the late 1960's.

Re: Redline tire question

My car had painted steel rims, dog-dish hubcaps and Firestone Wide Oval D-70/14 Redlines on it.

I custom ordered it in Oct. '66 and received it in Dec. '66 car..

Re: Redline tire question

I just changed over to redlines Firestone wide oval for my 67. I have had email conversation with the original owner (80 years old) and she told me she was offered the redlines at time of purchase but chose white walls instead. I like the redlines. I had raised white letters on and could not keep the letters clean.

Re: Redline tire question

Does anyone know if they are making these in 17" diameter sizes? I have heard you can have your existing tires "striped".

Diamondback has 17 redlines. I have not used them but they look nice! http://www.widewhitewalltires.com/pricelist_17.htm

I remember your picture with white letters. The Redlines are Great for your car! 100x improvement vs. letters, IMO.

car looks great with the redlines on it!
What do you think of a red car with red painted steel wheels and redline tires?
Too much red?

Re: Redline tire question

Itís hard to say. I can find allot of red 67,s with redlines but the dog dish painted rims are are to find pictures of. Here is one with rallies and v-top.
FYI when I go to shows or cruise ins I typically am the only Camaro with dog dish and painted rims.

That looks great! I remember a thread a while back trying to make the choice and this is by far the best option. It really makes the red interior stand out. Are those pictures with the D70 or F70?
