Tread Separation Today

Wow, out for a drive today on the freeway going 70mph when I started to feel some vibration. It started getting bad so I slowed down and exited the freeway and pulled into a parking low only to find the thread had separated from the wheel. Put on my spare and it's bent but it got me home. Just ordered some BF Goodrich TA radials now I have to find a 14x6 rally rim. I think if I hadn't slowed down when I did no telling what was about to happen.

Re: Tread Separation Today

Not sure how old they are because they were on the car when I bought it 5 years ago. I had already been thinking it was time. They don't look bad but I new that not knowing how old they were was reason enough. I was going to do it in the spring. I shouldn't have waited so long. Anyway tires will be here on Thursday. Your right Doug I should have bought some tickets also.

Re: Tread Separation Today

Watch this. Then you'll be able to figure out how old the old tires are and the manufacture date of your new tires. It's good to know.

Re: Tread Separation Today

here is an example of a DOT code, which now is called a tin (tire Identification number) w2hr 38a 1907

w2hr= plant where tire made

38a= what kind of tire

1907= 19th week of 2007

anything over 5 years is risky, no matter how good the tread looks. Most tires have a 6 year warranty from date they were made or 5 years from date of purchase...now if you see something like w2hr 38a 197 * that make after the seven should be a triangle and it is a decade marker...meaning 19th week of 1997.

69 x-11..LS1, 420.88 horse to the tires,750 Holley Ultra DP, Torquer V2, darksides headers, PRC heads, 10.8:1 compression, forged bottom end, 5 speed. 2008 King Ranch F150 4x4.

Re: Tread Separation Today

Just got the new tires on the camaro this afternoon. I'm going to check the date code when I get back from hunting.

Re: Tread Separation Today

I've read six years is the max, Keith... even though the tread life may look like new. Which reminds me...got to trade the 2 ply thin lines in this spring...treads are good, but they're just way too old.
