Question Cragar steel valve stems?

I had the tires mounted on the Cragar SS wheels yesterday (milestone!).
What was new to me was the valve stems already in the rims.... they're just short threaded steel stems, maybe 3/8" long sticking up. The wheel dude asked me if I wanted to keep them (he had to put the valves inside them), or did I want to replace them with the typical black rubber ones.

I didn't know what to tell him because I'd never seen anything like those before. We agreed that if they worked and didn't leak, keep the shorty steel nubby ones, which he ended up doing. We both agreed the typical black stems would have looked stupid. I wasn't going to take them back home and wait to get some longer chrome stems.

Am I gonna have any issues getting an air hose on them? Do they hold up well? It's been 24 hours and the tires are holding air.

Re: Cragar steel valve stems?

Metal valve stems are common on aftermarket wheels and a nice touch over the rubber ones... I'm surprised that the guy at the tire shop didn't have metal ones in stock to offer you in case yours were bad. You need a nice set of stainless or chrome caps now to finish them off and cause you frustration when they get swipped all the time...

Keep the metal ones, you need screw in valve stems to be NHRA legal anyway faster than 12.0.

Alright... thanks guys.
People swipe those things?? And if this car ever goes faster than 12.0, I'll eat a sparkplug wire.
