OEM style tire sizing help needed

Hello TC! Finishing up a restoration on my 68' 327 RS Camaro and need some help in choosing the correct tire size. I'm looking to buy original style tires such as the Goodyear Polyglass or possibly the Firestone Wide Ovals. I noticed they are all offered in three sizes: D70,E70 & F70-14. I have the original Rally Sport wheels that I believe are 14x7". What belongs on the car? What size will work and look the best? I appreciate any advice that can be offered.

Original 68 rally wheels would be 14x6 as shown in the link. Might want to figure out exactly which wheels you have, as the above standard and optional tires for the base V8 and L30 327/275 cars would be to fit a 6 inch wide rim, and might not work as well if you truly have 7 inch wide rallys.

I checked the wheel codes and it turns out that they are the original 14x6 wheels. I always thought they were 14x7- my error! Curious about a couple of things...Is the "optional" F70-14 size wider? Was this a common or popular add? Also, what do the BW,WS & RL codes denote? Thanks again!

Looking at the charts, the F70-14 would fit fine on the 6" rim.

The intials are as follows: BW= Blackwall, WS= white stripe, and RL for redline.

Hey Kev...I'm goin' with T/A's...225/70/14's next week... had 2ply before... but they were just gettin' too long in the tooth. Unless you are going with the fatter look...either would suit your purpose...I believe the F-70's would cross to the 215 of today, eh?

T/A's will look great too! I just like the "Orig" look of the Goodyear polyglass tires. I just hope that the car drives well with them. I like the look, but afraid I might be taking a step backwards because they are essentially an old & probably outdated tire. They are a little pricey too!

I've been driving with polysglass for some time now...they ain't bad, but they do keep you on your toes...esp when going across one of those draw bridges with the steel teeth.

On the corners they are a bit mushy, but have pretty stiff shocks which compensates somewhat. So, looking forward to a more controlled ride with the radials.

The ride is soft, almost spongy, and doesn't take much to squeak the rubber...and they are quiet on the road...there is a Firestone tread on them. I just hope that the TA's will be as quiet, as in a vert you can really notice noisy tires at slower speeds.

Good luck on your choice...there isn't that much to choose from these days, unless you have deep pockets for the Cokers.
