Question 17X8 with 4 in bs and 255/45/17's on the rear of a 69?

I have a line on a couple of these new for less than 200 a pc... was wondering if I ran this wheel and tire combo on the back, if it would work okay? I could run 255/50/17's as well, that might be a hair narrower. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I think they'll stick out. Even 15x7's run 4.25" backspacing.

I have 15X7's with 3.5 in bs with 255/60R15 Radial TA's and they bulge a bit, but they don't rub... I figure it would be close, but not positive...

Jeremy, welcome fellow Iowan. Check out the sticky on the 69 combos. I see one guy is running 17x8 with 4.75 bs. He has 255/45's on the rear. I don't know if that .75 of an inch bs will cause you to stick out to far. If the seller is close to you ask them if you can try fitting one wheel on and see.

Thanks Ted! I have checked that many times, but it doesn't answer my question... I got taken on Ebay and got one that is 5.5 in bs... seller would never respond... 100% positive feedback I think it would be very close...

Will not work...4" b/s isn't enough and will have you rubbing the fenders.
4.5" on a 8" wide wheel is a minimum on these cars and even that is tight.

Yep... I'll be there Friday and Saturday... Maybe some on the 4th... I enjoy that... I went to the Hot Rod Power Tour in Newton, and wasn't all that impressed... I think the Good Guys is a better show.. so I am pumped.

Re: 17X8 with 4 in bs and 255/45/17's on the rear of a 69?

Good Guys always puts on a good show. Have fun you guys!

As for the wheels, we normally run a 9" wheel in the back with a 5.25" BS, and that is tight, so a 8 with a 4" is going to be a .25" even further outboard from where we like it to be, and that is not good. Ideally, an 8 with a 4.5" is about where you want to be. Some TT2s come "standard" with 4.75", and even that is okay.

Damn... wish I would have known that before now... those wheels are long gone... I thought they would work by the way my 255's sit on there now with a 15X7 and 3.5" bs... they don't even come close to rubbing anywhere... and no I don't have air shocks, but my car sits much higher than yours in the rear end... so much you can see my aluminum differential cover... thanks for the info... It is much appreciated...

Re: 17X8 with 4 in bs and 255/45/17's on the rear of a 69?

I guess it depends on the look you're after. Tucked or untucked. This is a 275/40ZR17 on a 9.5" rim with 5.5" backspacing.

MB Wheels Old School in chrome
front - 17x8, 4.75" backspace, 235/45R17 Hankooks
rear - 17x9.5, 5.5" backspace, 275/40R17 Hankooks
$1176 mounted, balanced, and shipped from discounttiredirect.com
$750 for the rims alone
Even less for the gunmetal finish.

This car, lowered, looks to me like it would definitely rub.

Yep... That is what I was thinking... it may rub... really close to the outer lip... I hate the fact that you have to run such a short tire that is wide... 25.3 in (275/40R17) is just too short with my 3.90's... With my setup now... it is right at 2600-2800 rpm at 70 mph..just about perfect... I hate to see what cutting it down 2 inches will do...
