17x8's same old ?

Looking at some 17x8 wheels with 5" backspace...255/40/17....all 4 the same...I did do a search but didn't find that exact combo..any thoughts if that will work with a stock 1st gen...any thoughts on how it will look... I still like the look of a 15 with sidewall don't like too much wheel(not an import!) Thanks in advance for your thoughts! Ed

I think you may have problems with that tire size on the front. I dont think the backspacing is correct either, but its been a while & I can't remember what the front should be for an 8. I want to say its in the 4.5 range. They may set too far inside the wheelwell. It looks funny, but may also rub the inner fender and might be close to the tie rod end. Scott

The fronts, in an 8" width usually have a about a 4.75 to 4.875 bs, so with the 5" you will rub the frame a little on tight turns (i think) and the tire size is a little tall and will cause issues as well. As far as the rear, it wil work just fine but the wheels will set a little to far in....IMO.
