Resizing front tires

I currently have 225 45 17 on the front of my 69. The outside edge seems to rub on the fender chrome trim when the suspension compresses. Honestly Id rather not have 17" rims on the front but I cant get new rims.

Can anyone suggest a different tire size that might work better, some way i can get the tires to set deeper into the wheel wells.

Also these thin profile tires really make the car seem to ride hard. I would imagine that unless i switch to 16" rims there isn't much I can do about that.

Any info would be great. Thanks

Hatya

Re: Resizing front tires

8.9" wide @ 225

8.5" wide @ 215

7.6" wide @ 195

Just a few options to narrow your tire and keep the 17's But I hve no clue who or if they make that size.
