Just bought a 68 and the tires are too small.

Currently Running 205/60/14 and 205/60/15s out the rear. Im trying to see what you guys think I could get away with. I have Air Shocks in the rear but thats as much as I know. If this is not the right section just let me know and ill fix it. Anyway heres some pics.

I really just hate the small tires and the gap between the tire and wheel well.

What do you want to do? it definately needs to be lowered IMO and with a paint scheme like that, you can get away with a going with a larger wheel diameter like a 17" or 18". I would put some 2" lowering springs in the front and ditch the air shocks, put some drop leafs in the back and upgrade the shocks. That is just me though!

Re: Just bought a 68 and the tires are too small.

I would go with some 15 inch wheels on all 4. You can get by with a pretty big tire in the back. A 235/70/15 (28 inch diameter) would be no problem in the back.

I was running 275/60/15 in the rear of my 68, they really filled up the wheel well.

Re: Just bought a 68 and the tires are too small.

245's on the front is pushing your luck on a 68 and very few get away with it. 235's will give you less headaches for sure. 275's are a very good MAX for the rears. Those changes will make a big difference from what you have now. I run 225/45/18 fronts and 275/40/18 rears which is more wheel and less tire compared to less wheel and more tire in case of going to 235/70/15 and 275/60/15. At the end of the day it's pretty much a wash when it comes to "filling up the well". See "Matt" in my sig for pics. Do keep in mind that my car is lowered close to 2" in the front and close to 1.5" in the rear which is the next step most guys wanting to fill the well take.

205/65/15 fronts and 275/60/15 rears then drop the front 1 or2 inches

Re: Just bought a 68 and the tires are too small.

Thanks for the help. Let me just first say I did not choose the color scheme. The previous owner put alot of thought into it and it was his vision. The paint is awesome and shines nice. Water has never touched the paint. no rain no soap no nothing. The previous owner used just polish and a california duster thing. Reason I guess is the multiple layers of clear on it. Either way it has work.

Anyways thanks for the wheel and tire ideas. Im still looking into it. I guess what I will do first is lower it a little with some springs in the front and leafs in the rear. Right?

I dont want my 68 to look ghetto. While there are some nice big rims out there. I really want to stay in the 18's or below bracket. The wheels I think I have on now are just fine.

Any thoughts on to which company to go with on the springs and leafs to lower it?
