69 SS 350 w/5 Spoke SS Wheels

Is it possible that these wheels were install by a dealer?

If I remember correctly these wheels were not an option on Camaros after January 1st, 1969.

The assembly date of my car was second week of December 68 and the wheels are coded: MI 9 3 24 YA

I interpret this to be 24th day of March, 1969

If it is not possible, I want to go back to what came from the factory.

Yes, RPO N66 five spoke style wheels with a YA code were available for the 69 Camaro. They were only available for the early part of the 69 production run and discontinued in Dec 68 as an option on Camaros. Some cars have been documented with the YA code SS wheels well into January.

I understand that, but since the assembly date on my car is 2nd week of December and these wheels were built in March, doesn't that make it impossible for these wheels to have been installed on the car at the factory???

Ahh. I missread your post and yes that would be correct.

If I remember correctly my 11D 69 L48 SS has the YA coded wheels dated right at one week prior to the build date.

Re: 69 SS 350 w/5 Spoke SS Wheels

No worries... I re-read my post and it was pretty dang confusing.

I'm still curious if anyone knows whether or not a dealer could have added the wheels to the car after it arrived. Not real sure why they would do that, other than the customer requesting it... if it was even possible to do. They obviously do that now. I don't see why they couldn't have done it back then too.

I guess I will never really know the truth. I will probably restore the wheels and then try and get them to someone who needs them to complete their car.

I have the same situation. My 69 was built in the first week of November in 68 but the 5 spoke wheels are MI 9 6 11 YA, making them made 7 months after the car!!

69 SS, 350/300 h.p., M-20, 12 bolt, matching numbers.

I have an older cousin who bought a 69 camaro new in NY...His car has the 5 spoke ss wheels that the dealer installed...He said the car sat new on the lot for several months before he bought it and when they changed the wheels and re-displayed the car, he bought it

If you like the way they look on the car, why not just leave them? I like them, but they will "pop" a little better if you put some white letter or redline tires on them.

Amen!! Those wheels need a raised white letter performance radial to "pop" like they should. The black sidewall tires kill em!

I agree too about the white letter radials! I may just restore them and leave them on the car... we shall see.

I have 17" TT2's on mine right now but look forward to getting the original N66 wheels restored and back on the car.
