Help me understand

17x9.5 with 5.5" backspace fits on the back of a 69 why wouldn't a 17x9 with 5" backspace work. Seems to me the 1/2 inch difference in backspace is made up with the width of the wheel.

I ask this question because I do not want to pay the crazy prices for a custom wheel 9.5 inches wide if I can purchase a stock made 9 inch wheel for half the price. seems like there are a lot of option out there in a 17x9 with 5" bs.

Re: Help me understand

Good question, I was curious about the same thing just on a 68.

Re: Help me understand

Its gonna fit becuz i have done it on a 69 just be careful what tire size you use, on a 68 it will also fit but i didn't lower the car. 9.5 is the max it can go on a 69 without mods and cutting.

Re: Help me understand

I have had two wheel guys tell me 17x9 with 5" bs won't work, I don't know why. I have done a search on here and can't find anyone with those on the rear. Would sure make getting wheels a little easier if they did work and clear the quarter lip.

Well that's not exactly true...I run an 18x10 rear on my '69 w/o modifications and I know a few other guys with the same combo so it can be done.

A 17x9 w/5" b/s would probably work but I don't think 5 inches of b/s is enough.A 17x9.5 w/5.5" of b/s and a 275/40 tire will work like a charm and to answer your original question, neither of these will probably be on the shelf ready for shipment, usually those are special order items and will take a little time to build.

Why not contact my wheel guy and sponsor here Jon Henson from www.driverzinc.com he's setup all my wheels for my cars and know's fitment like the back of his hand...tell him I sent you and good luck!

Thanks, I already contacted him by PM. He shot me a price of what I thought I wanted and seemed very reasonable. I am not sure what look I want right now and I am not going to be ready money wise untila after the holidays. I am definately going to order from him in January.
