Talking New wheels... finally!

I couldn't pass up the deal on these Rushforths. And the wife approved, even better! I know it's going to be close, fit wise. More motivation to get out in the garage and strip the 40 years of paint. But with these wheels, who needs paint? lmao Here are the specs...

The specs are 17x8/ 4.875" backspace and 17x10/ 5.625" backspace/ 5x4.75 bolt pattern. They were made for a 69.

I was concerned with the 10 in. but at the track the other day a guy was running a 12 in. on a stock, yes, I said stock 67. No tubbing! There was some rubbing even with the rolled fender lip. But it fit! Not possible, I know.

Now I'm looking at tire sizes. Looking at all the other pics of the 68's, 40 series don't look bad. I'd rather have a 45 series, but the sizes are limited. Larger series in the front or rear? I've seen both. I will not go lower than a 40. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Robert

Nice choice on wheels, you won't be sorry with Rushforth's...I am concerned with the 10" wheel though. Did you discuss with Jason Rushforth directly? I had an 18 x 9.5 with a 5.75 bs and was really close, is your car lowered much or at all? I am currently running a 245/40/18 and 275/40/18 on my car with no issues on 18x8 and 18x9 Rushforth's.

Re: New wheels... finally!

Yes Steve, I talked with him on the phone. He said I'm pushing it. When I told him about the 67 running 12's he said, "no way, it was tubbed". The guy told me it wasn't. Looking inside, there was no evidence of it being tubbed! There was no interior. Don't get me wrong, I know I'm pushing it, but I couldn't pass up the offer.
Some "flake"(his words) ordered them and didn't come through with the money. I got a helluva discount.
Your tire sizes are the exact same size tires I'm looking at. BFG's kdw... the wife likes the look of those! Have to keep her happy too.
I have 2" drop Hotchkis springs up front and their 1 1/2" leafs for the rear. I have not intalled those yet.
Weren't you selling some wheels earlier?

I think 40's are the way to go, just the right ratio of tire/wheel IMO. I am running 40's on my VWW 17 inch wheels and on the back my wheel is 9.5 inch with a 5.5 inch back space, so you should be ok.

Oh, I forgot to add that those are beautiful wheels, I remember looking at them a couple of years ago when I was building my Camaro, but with a limited budget I opted for the VWW wheels.

Re: New wheels... finally!

Thanks Bill. Thanks Terry. I talked to Jon at driverzinc.com and he set me in the right direction for the tires. I'm going to go with the Nitto 555. Reason, BFG doesn't make a 45 series in the tire I originally wanted. I need to run a 45 series up front to fill the opening a lil' more. He said a 235/45 so the side bulge doesn't make the tire look bigger than the rear. I want a 245! But looking at Musclecarjohn's 69 with a 245 up front, https://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?t=146928 I will go with the 235. It appears to be a bit much sidewall bulge. What a beautiful car. It is a freak!
235/45/17 up front
275/40/17 out back... 285 or 295 would be nice!! hehe I'm already pushing it!
I'll be back in the future to post some pics. I'm stripping the car now for paint this spring/summer! I'll still post some pics when I get the tires on!

A 235 Vs. a 245 is only 10mm or about a 1/4" so don't get hopes too high.

Re: New wheels... finally!

I understand Doug. An 8" wheel is actually 9" edge to edge. The 235 tire is 9.3 and the 245 is 9.6 iches in width.
