69 Z/28 Goodyear Eagle GT II Tires 255 on the rear.

Okay, I have desperately looked for two 235 x 60 x 15 tires to complete a set so I can use them on my 69 RS Z/28 15 x7 wheels, I have had no luck so far. I have two new ones and a questionable used one but I am frustrated so I am considering buying two new 255 x 60 x 15 GTII for the rear to complete the set. My question is I prefer the stock look as these will be a spare drivers set as the YH and Wide Tread Goodyears on it now are show pieces and not for the street. Will the 235's front and 255's rear still have the stock look or will the rears on the 15 x 7 spare rims I have make it look more aggresive and on a rake in the rear and will they possible rub since everything on my Z/28 is stock including the ride height.

Thank you for your commments or pictures

Re: 69 Z/28 Goodyear Eagle GT II Tires 255 on the rear.

I've been combing through a lot of the threads on 69z radials to find what the appropriate sizes are. The conclusion I've come to is a 215/65R15 is the closest to the F70's (a 26.5 inch height tire).

That said, some guys run a 235/60. Some say they rub in the front and others say they are fine. I'd imagine the 255's would be really tight in the back.

You say your ride height is stock, does that mean all your springs (front coil and rear leaf) are original or have they been replaced to spec?

Re: 69 Z/28 Goodyear Eagle GT II Tires 255 on the rear.

Well, we have something in common as my 69 RS Z/28 is also Dusk Blue, my favorite color. I had another one before I found the RS. My car is a full blown trailer queen that I have decided to drive locally as it never get out of the garage. It is stock ride height and has stock original GM spiral shocks in it. When I had my bug eye enduro Dusk Z I had a coil cut in the front to lower it but the 235's rubbed so I went to 225's(TA'S) and 235 in the rear with no issues.

I have also researched this on the internet with the same conclusion as some guys can run 235's in the front and others have some rubbing. I am hoping since my cars sits at stock ride height I will not have issues with the Eagle GT II 235's in the front. I just want to be different with this car and put the Eagle GT II as I grew up a Goodyear fan. I have Polyglas GT on my AAR now and do not like them at all but wanted the original look. The TA's I had before were fun but I made the mistake. I just want to be a little different the my Z/28 as everyone uses TA's for good reason.

The 69 Camaro has more room in the front for a wider tire than the 67 and 68 Camaros.

A nice combination for the 67-68 Camaros is 215-65-15s in the front and 255-60-15s in the rear.

Hopefully Greg aka South Side Goons & Hitmen can chime in.

Re: 69 Z/28 Goodyear Eagle GT II Tires 255 on the rear.

Thanks for the info Tory but the problem is Eagle GT II were made in 235 and 255 and they were not offered in 245 so either I go to 255's in the rear or keep looking for 235's. I have the Goodyear 235's for the front but nothing for the rear! :-)

Hi Rene',
Have you considered selling the Goodyears and purchasing a set of BF Goodrich Radial T/As? The BF Goodrich Radials are available in many sizes.

Re: 69 Z/28 Goodyear Eagle GT II Tires 255 on the rear.

I have BFG T/A's 235 x60 x 15 on my YH wheels front and back. I had no issues rubbing with car 8 1/2" curb height, thats 24.5" front ground to wheel open molding lip.

Where I had rubbing was in the front when I tried 245 's on same wheel. The tire would rub the headlamp door motor plastic covers on a bump turn. Otherwise all was good .

I have a second set of 16" wheels that I went to with 245 x 50 x 16, BFG Traction Gforce that I may have to replace after the upcoming Powertour. They dont make this tire any more so the Goodyear Eagle that you have may be the one I go to but in 16". Hope this helps.

I have Goodyear eagles GT II 235 60 15 on my YH 15 X 7 rims and no issues...It's been a few years but are Eagles GT II 235 hard to get now-a-days?

Re: 69 Z/28 Goodyear Eagle GT II Tires 255 on the rear.

Well, it seems to be for me as they were discontinued and even though some online tire websites advertise them, no one has them. I have two new ones and one used one that honestly would be better as a spare. I have had TA's many times in the past but want something different for my dusk blue RS Z/28 which is why I wanted the Eagle II's. I will hopefully find one or two to complete the set.

A quick search shows:

http://ntb.com/Tire-Detail/GOODYEAR/Eagle-GT-II/3691

or just google Goodyear Eagle GT II. I see them available at Sears, Superbuy Tires, etc.

I stopped by Sears on my way to lunch today and they said their warehouse had one 235/60/15 Goodyear Eagle GT II in stock. They haven't discontinued the size, but they have been on back order for a long time. I don't know where their warehouse is (local vs national), but I could give you the location if you want to do a little further looking. Price was $133 on sale.
