Lug nut diamter on old style American Aluminum Mags

I have American Racing 200S Aluminum wheels bought in 1974. The mag lug nuts don't fit all of the holes I bought. They are 7/16" open end mag style lug nuts including washers. The shank length is 0.75" and the total length is 1.5". The diameter of the shank is 0.68". Can the aluminum wheel be drill out a litter over the 0.68" so the mag lug nuts fit in the wheels or is this dangerous? Thanks for your help.

Robert you should look into having steel conical seat incerts installed into your wheels.

I agree - if you need to alter you wheels let a pro do it. Many aftermarket wheels center on the lugnuts, as opposed to the stock steel wheels which center on the hub register.
