Wheel/Tire combo coupled with suspension question

Hi guys,

I have a '69 and have been looking around at different suspension set-ups. I plan to go with the following:

Front - 17x8 w/ 4.5 bs and 225/45/17
Rear - 17x9.5 w/ 5.5 bs and 275/40/17

I have been looking at the new Hotchkis TVS kit which lowers 3 inches all around, but have not found any information on whether or not I will have fitment issues. Could someone help shed light on this for me? Thanks in advance.

Re: Wheel/Tire combo coupled with suspension question

3 inch in the back might be to low for those wheels/tires....but with air shocks you could pull it off...I just did the hotchkis leafs in the rear (1.5")...and used their 2 inch drop coils in the front...Ive got 19's on it and am having rubbing issues....I am going with a 17 inch set up soon and I think it should be the perfect combo.....

The stance is perfect, however it would look even better with a 3 inch drop. I havent had any scraping issues whatsoever, so I might go down a lil lower with the new rims

Re: Wheel/Tire combo coupled with suspension question

Thanks Irish. I don't mind having to angle up steep driveways, etc but I would like it high enough to get it on a trailer from time to time.

From a few posts that I've read, it seems that a number of people who had the Hotchkis suspension set-up that you do wished they would have went a little lower. If I could go with the 3 inch drop with no real issues, I think I would do that, but I may compromise and go with the Detroit speed 2 inch drop.

You will be happier with a 4.75" bs in front and a 5.75" bs in the rear!

Steve - Why do you say that? Better fitment?

Yes, you will have less / no issues with rubbing when the car is lowered. I am running 18x8 in front with 4.75 and a 245/40 with no problem.

What are you running in the rear and how did you lower all around?

Re: Wheel/Tire combo coupled with suspension question

I am running 18x9's with a 5.5" bs and 275/40's right now but I used to have 9.5's and did run a 5.75 bs on those. I am lowered in front with QA1 coil overs and in the rear I have the Hotchkis drop leafs.

How do you like the hotchkis? 1.5 or 3inch?

Re: Wheel/Tire combo coupled with suspension question

I have 3" and they are really good springs. Coupled with the QA1 shocks that I have in the rear too, it makes for a firm ride but not to bad.

Re: Wheel/Tire combo coupled with suspension question

Buy the Hotchkis TVS 2" drop in the front with the 1.5" rear drop leafs... Then buy the Hotchkis L&U a arms will get you a 2.5" front drop then use a 1/2" lowering block on the rear for a 2" drop. That will put you right between the 2" and 3" drop with upgrading your steering at the same time That's what i plan on doing (already bought the stuff) when i get my car out of storage this April. I run a set of 17" VWW's 45's with 8" fronts tire is 255x45, rears are 9.5, tire 275x40, car is all ready lowered 2" in front and 1" rear and plenty of room.

69 X-44 Camaro, slowly upgrading to my liking...Hmmm, i guess i'll never be done

Current set up is stock front springs cut 2" by PST with 5 leaf replacement leafs with a 1" lowering block....drives like crap. Those are the new wheels and tires though.

Re: Wheel/Tire combo coupled with suspension question

Don - I like the stance. Why not just go with the DSE 2 inch drop all the way around?
