Smile Wheel size wheel to fit 245/60R15

I have a chance to get 4 new tires (P245/60R15) at a good price. I'm planning to get new rims too. What size rally rims (width and bs) would you reccomend? My cars suspension / height looks pretty standard. Thanks!!!

Section width of that tire should be about 9.64 inches with widewall height around 5.78 inches. Normal size wheel for that is probably 7 or 8 inches.

I don't think I would run anything that wide on the front. I would on the back.

I ran a similar size tire on my 68 (just slightly wider and a 50 series) and the back ones would rub slightly at times. So I went to a narrower tire. The ones you have listed here will probably be OK.

Yeah, lots of room out back, not so much up front.

Re: Wheel size wheel to fit 245/60R15

I've run 245/60 15's on 15x7 with 4.5 bs with no problems on the back of a 1st gen. I've seen them on the front on the same wheel but don't have any 1st hand experience. I know 235/60 15 on a 15x7 4.5 bs works well on the front.

245's on the front tend to fit much better on 69's than 67's/68's. Plenty of threads on here with 67-8 front rubbing issues when using 245 tire on a 8" rim (assuming you'll have 8" rims). Just my two cents...

245/60's fit nice on the rear of my 68 with 15x7 and 3.76BS on TT-D's. I run 225's up front as 245's would rub the outer fender lip like crazy. I'd buy the tires and see if you can trade 2 of them for some 225's.

On the back run 15 X 8 with 4.5 backspace. You can get rallys at Summit for about $80 ea.

Re: Wheel size wheel to fit 245/60R15

I'm running a 245/40/18 up front on my '67 with 5" BS. I get a little rub on the subframe at full lock on my driver side, but my front suspension was a mess and I'm in the middle of changing it out right now. There was no issue at all with clearance on the fender. I think you could probably get away with 4.75" BS and have decent clearance all around, or go with a 5" backspace and use wheel spacers if needed.

The 245/60/15 will be a little taller than mine, and the sidewalls are going to have a little more flex, so you need to take that into consideration if you go with them. Either way, I think an 15x8 is your best choice with a 245.

Russ, seeing your pic reminds me of my last 68:

225/6015's do fill out a front wheel well nicely. Guess I'll have to forget about the 245's up front

PS, I am completely jealous you get to go to the Garlic Festival whenever you want!

Yeah Dan we live just 1/2 mile from Christmas Hill Park where the Garlic Festival is held but funny enough we usually leave town that weekend and head to the beach.
