Date code on bfg tires ??? Not rims...

I found a nice set of BFG Radial T/A's,, P245/60R15's,, with the original sale info stickers still on the tires,, he wants $100 for each... I need to know just how old these tires really are,, there is no weather/age cracks, but I know for a fact no weather cracks are not a 100% gaurantee that the tires are new & safe,, also,, does anybody know how old a tire can be before it is {"Too"} old to use to be safe,???? Thanks...

Re: Date code on bfg tires ??? Not rims...

The last 1 or 2 digits is the year. The previous 2 digits are the week. My last 4 for example, are 2510.....25th week, 2010. Not sure on the safe life expectancy, have heard 6 yrs ??...debatable.

$100 ea doesn't sound like an exceptional deal. Maybe the 245's are in short supply now ??, but they were around 95 new from Summit a year ago.....

I think they didn't start date coding tires until 2000 ?

Here's a good read http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tirete....jsp?techid=11

For some reason your link had combined autoguide link for team camaro. Any link to an outside url this morning seems to be doing this.

Copy and paste still works.

On the sidewall right next to the bead. It's a series of numbers and letters but just the last 4 is the date code. Don't think it's on the tag....

Yeah, depending how old they are, I'd say some negotiating is needed. Was looking at my reciept from about 10 months ago, shipping was $9.50 ea. I'd advise checking with Summit. The tires I got were just a couple months old.
