front skinnies....

Brand and size you're using please.

In the market for some "budget" skinnies
Found some 165/80/15's... but only T rated (118mph)

Re: front skinnies....

165sr15's are some of the most popular skinnies out there. Don't let the speed rating fool you. The speed rating doesn't mean the tire will self desctruct as soon as you reach 118mph. The speed rating is for a much longer duration than any 1/4 mile pass. Meaning it is rated at a sustained speed for X amount of time.

I know of many 9 second cars running "VW" or metric radials up front, that's what the 165sr15's are. I have run them on many cars and have a set on the front of my Nova.

I have MT sportsman radials on the front of my Buick, because I needed a shorter tire.

Re: front skinnies....

Royce, thanks.
They're rated at 1201# and 118mph.

Nexen makes them.

Re: front skinnies....

But, if unsprung weight is a concern and a lesser contact patch, Moroso fronts are good.
Two-ply sidewall, DS2's are 4-ply, round across the tread width with alot of air pressure for a smaller contact patch and less weight to boot means more speed/less ET.

See here:

Re: front skinnies....

I seen them ,but I have radials on the rear and want to stay with radials on the front, have a somewhat decent ride on the street, and on a budget.

Currently 205/65/15's on 5" Prostars....looking for something 25-27" tall that will work on 5" wheels, have a narrow profile, speed rated to 120+, and not break the bank

Re: front skinnies....

Agree, Doug, now reading you need a DOT tire for the street.
I assumed (there's the word) the car was specific use for off road use only. My mistake.

As said, 165's are common size. You should check Discount Tire. Discount Tire has a discount here and no shipping charges, or at least when I ordered my 19 inch set for my M3, 4 at $560 delivered, no shipping. Hankook is the brand, nice tire.

Re: front skinnies....

Doug,

I have Moroso 7.10-15 skinnies on the camaro, they are 27.7 inches tall and Hoosier 28x4.5-15 on my stocker.......I. choose front tires by the diameter and rollout as my main concern is how they will affect my reaction times.

Re: front skinnies....

For street use, I wouldn't use a true "front runner" type of tire (M/T, Moroso, etc..) on the street. I ran them on the street once and emergency stopping was not fun at all.

Re: front skinnies....

I should add the M/T Sportsman radials are nice, but a little spendy. Here is a link to them http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MTT-6652/ I have them on teh front of the Buick and they handle well and I haven't had any issue stopping.
